About the event

Maryland Master Naturalist and retired teacher Adreon Hubbard presents an in-person talk on monarch butterflies. Learn about their miraculous metamorphosis from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly as well as their impressive migration to Mexico and what you can do to help this charismatic insect. Adreon will show close up photos, video clips and live monarchs in various stages (if they cooperate). She will summarize recent monarch research, including pros and cons of rearing small numbers of them in captivity for enjoyment and education and their conservation status.

Speaker Bio:

Adreon caught the monarch "bug" after taking the Monarch Teacher Network Workshop at Ladew Gardens in 2017. Since retiring in 2021 from Baltimore City Public Schools, Adreon has become a Master Naturalist, Master Gardener, and a docent at the Ladew Gardens native Butterfly House. She enjoys giving monarch workshops and tabling at events, using monarchs as a "nature ambassador" to foster people's connection with nature and conservation.

This is a free event that all ages will enjoy. Children age 3 and older are welcome to attend.
