Radebaugh Park, 11 Maryland Ave, Towson, MD 21286, USA

About the event

Radebaugh Park was created through the efforts of volunteers in the Green Towson Alliance in liaison with County and State officials and was completed in 2022. In 2016, the Radebaugh Florist family (their Florist Shop is at 120 E Burke Ave, Towson, MD 21286) decided to transfer their greenhouse work away from the old, inefficient glass greenhouses on this 2.4-acre property to new, modern greenhouses on their grandparents' farm north of Towson. For the creation of the community park that was envisioned by the Green Towson Alliance with extensive community input, the Radebaughs sold the hillside land to Baltimore County.

Creating a nature-friendly, green park that invites people of all ages and abilities, the park includes gentle, ADA-accessible walking paths, an upper terrace with big boulders for children to play on, a larger lower terrace with space for frisbees and kites, over 100 native canopy shade trees, meadows of native pollinator plants and flowers, a set of native perennial flower gardens, shrubs and American Elms by the entrance at 11 Maryland Ave, a bioswale that directs stormwater to the stream, and a boardwalk for walking along the stream to Aigburth Rd near Towson High School and a senior community, Aigburth Vale.

The tour will be hosted by Dr, Carol Newill and other members of the Green Towson Alliance. Carol provided leadership throughout the development of the park, with the design by landscape architect Nick Linehan and the help of many additional volunteers as well as Councilman David Marks, County Property Management Specialist Derrick Guilbualt, and other government officials including 3 County Executives. Funding came primarily from Maryland Program Open Space.
